ZIP SERIES

The key element in this series is the central vertical strip, hence the title Zip, which cuts the work in slices like the gaps between skyscrapers, the city at night, shapes that become abstract yet belong to reality. The earlier Zip works were painterly with brushed and dragged colour in a simple palette. The central column contrasts greatly to the rest of the image. As this series has progressed and been influenced by other series, I have begun to use paint in many layers and stencils with a variety of mark making for different areas, the light is always coming through, the paints are a mixture of acrylic and pen and fluorescent which will change in certain light conditions to vibrate.
